Adding more fat to your diet can feel like a real gamble when you’re trying to lose weight, so adding these first two in might take a leap of faith, because years of media brain washing and false science had us all believing fat was the enemy!
But here are the foods that the Babes and I eat on a daily basis to keep us slim!
1. Avocados –I remember back in my Weight Watcher days being absolutely horrified and totally jealous when someone asked me if I wanted avocado in my sandwich – were they kidding? Adding more fat to your diet can feel like a real gamble when you’re trying to lose weight, so adding these first two in might take a leap of faith, because years of media brain washing and false science had us all believing fat was the enemy! But here are the foods that the Babes and I eat on a daily basis to keep us slim!
“Those things are about 8 points, that’s half my allowance in one bite! No I’ll just stick to the low fat cheese and a diet coke thanks” – Doh!
If you want to speed up your weight loss then adding more FAT into your diet is essential.
One of the main reasons is that it stops you wanting more carbs. Eating a lower carb diet means your body is primed for fat loss as your insulin levels – the hormone produced to store excess sugar (from carbs in the blood) as fat – drop.
*********Remember insulin is a FAT STORING hormone, so we want levels low!*********
Also a high fat diet stops you feeling hungry, like protein and unlike carbohydrate it is a slow burning macronutrient so it’s great for satiety.
Couple that with the low insulin effect and you have a double win!
2. Coconut Oil, for all the reasons above PLUS it is formed from the same acids as the most nutritionally dense superfood found on the planet – breast milk. It contains loads of medium chain fatty acids. These triglycerides are fantastic for speeding up the metabolism.
Like all saturated fats it performs great at high temperatures so it is the perfect cooking oil – I cook EVERYTHING in it, even my roast potatoes!
Extra virgin organic is the best!
3. Green Vegetables. These guys are alive with vitamins, minerals, enzymes & anti-oxidants that will help detoxify your liver, increasing your metabolism.
Eating large amounts of cruciferous veggies such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, sprouts etc will also help as these contain something called DIM, a plant compound that encourages the metabolism of Oestrogen, another hormone that we want low levels of.
Not only that, green veggies are low carb, high protein and full of fibre so they will fill you up for very little calories.
